Yes you read that correctly. Not $30,000, but a $35,000 (HOLY #@%&) sale for the Messi 1/1 Base Black World Cup Prizm NFT was recorded ON CHAIN overnight at Panini! And not without some late night drama to go along with it…

On Dec 19th Panini dropped their first ever Prizm World Cup NFT set. Later that day a $30K bounty was announced in the panini discord. The buyer? An unnamed friend of resident Panini Blockchain whale Spinotron. This sent the soccer community into a frenzy (as expected) with over 50,000 packs getting ripped in the first 5 days as people kept hunting for the jackpot.

Christmas Eve Day

Waking up Christmas Eve morning we all saw the news. Messi 1/1 had been pulled. Spino had been in contact with the owner, offered the bounty, and now we all sit and wait for the sale to come through Discord right? RIGHT?

And then this happened. The Messi 1/1 suddenly appeared in the gallery, with a $60K buy it now option! Speculation was running rampant. Did the buyer turn down the bounty? Did other potential buyers dm with higher offers? Had this guy not heard about the $3M Judge 62nd HR ball fiasco?

The Sale, and the Details

In the wee hours of Christmas morning we finally got our answers…

As it turns out, and as can be expected, the lucky person who pulled the Messi 1/1 wanted a moment to think. A short while later, the bounty buyer and seller both reached an agreement. The seller would list it in the Gallery for 24 hours, leaving it open to offers but placing a $60K BIN price. If no offers above $30K in the 24 hour period, then the bounty sale would proceed as planned. Sometime around midnight on Christmas Eve, with roughly 12 hours left in the window, a bid appeared. $35,000

Following some back and forth communications, the original bounty buyer decided to bow out above his $30K price tag, and, at 1:44 AM EST on Christmas Day, the $35,000 sale was confirmed on the Panini Blockchain

What Just Happened?

After the dust settled, we found ourselves staring at a new record sale for any pack pulled soccer NFT across all chains, ever. Not bad in this macro environment.

Looks like Messi winning his chip, the 1st Prizm WC set, and a giant 1/1 bounty chase created the perfect storm.
