A big moment for the web3 industry this week as Sorare announced the availability of Premier League players across it’s fantasy sports NFT platform, with the inclusion of a 100% free-to-play division as a way to lure in new entrants. A good marketing video never hurts either:
While Sorare offers us first access to the Premier League NFT’s we’ve been pining for, the focus here is on fantasy utility, and less so around the aesthetic of the NFTs and their collectability.

Is that good, bad, or indifferent? I think the jury is still out on this one. We’ve seen Sorare begin to dip a toe advertising these as collectibles instead of solely as utility fantasy assets, but I’m not sure the glove fits here.
There’s some serious money moving around the platform as these NFT’s are being valued by the market according to their utility in the fantasy game, and ultimately, the likelihood they will help a manager achieve an NFT or ETH ($$) reward for any given match week.
Is it worth owning these NFT assets for the longer term if you’re not planning to be active in the game? Again, jury is out, but it’s worth noting that a unique (AKA 1/1) Haaland NFT sold for $687k at auction in January of 2022, (yes you read that right).

My one piece of advice if you’re intending to dive in….be patient. With a free-to-play onboarding there’s no rush to spend big bucks before you really get familiar with the platform and the competitions. I may be committing funds to this in the future, but in the interim I’ll be taking my own advice and trying out the free-to-play Amateur competition.

In the meantime, back to Panini and ToppsNFTs Discords
